Breaking News | Academic Publication Announcement
I am pleased to share an important professional milestone.
A recent academic article presenting one of my original trauma frameworks has been formally accepted following peer review and will be published in the Australian Counselling Research Journal (ACRJ) in June 2026.
Peer review is a rigorous academic evaluation process in which a panel of independent reviewers, typically scholars and subject-matter experts who remain anonymous to the author critically examine original research or conceptual work prior to publication. The purpose of this process is to assess the contribution, theoretical clarity, and potential impact of new ideas within the scholarly field. The article that has been accepted presents an original conceptual model developed through decades of clinical practice, research, and lived inquiry into trauma and human resilience.
Following the official publication of the article, I will be able to publicly release the full-length book that expands upon this work in depth. This forthcoming volume represents an extensive body of research and reflection developed across many years of therapeutic practice and professional exploration.
The work is intended as a meaningful contribution to the evolving academic and clinical understanding of trauma. While grounded in clinical insight, the model is designed to be broadly accessible. It offers relevance not only to therapists, counsellors, coaches, and clinicians working within the trauma field, but also to individuals seeking deeper understanding of their own psychological experiences and pathways toward recovery.
I will share further updates as the journal publication approaches.
A new book relating this model and assessment will be published shortly after

Dark Contracts: Breaking the Nex of Narcissitic and Psychopathic Control

Dark Contracts: Breaking the Nex of Narcissistic and Psychopathic Control
By Deirdre Rolfe
Dark Contracts: Breaking the Nex of Narcissistic and Psychopathic Control presents a rigorous and clinically informed examination of the hidden psychological dynamics that underpin coercively controlling relationships. Drawing on over three decades of clinical experience, psychotherapist Deirdre Rolfe introduces the concept of the Nex—a parasitic psychological tether formed through patterns of gaslighting, trauma bonding, emotional deprivation, and the systematic erosion of a survivor’s internal sense of reality.
Written for both survivors and mental health professionals, the book provides a sophisticated framework for understanding the behavioural patterns associated with narcissistic, psychopathic, and other Dark Triad personality structures. It also offers a pathway toward psychological sovereignty by helping readers identify coercive relational patterns, reclaim language and meaning, and restore embodied awareness of truth and agency.

TraumaCode™ is a professionally designed therapeutic card system developed from more than three decades of clinical practice. The complete boxed set contains 96 large, gold-gilded cards, a comprehensive guide booklet, and a high-quality presentation box. Each element has been carefully produced to ensure both aesthetic beauty and practical therapeutic use.
TraumaCode™ is recommended for individuals 18 years and older due to the depth and maturity of the material. However, with appropriate parental guidance, many of the insights may also be beneficial for thoughtful adolescents who are exploring emotional awareness, identity, and resilience.
This unique system condenses over 30 years of therapeutic knowledge and practical experience into an accessible format that can be used for self-reflection, counselling practice, or guided therapeutic exploration. The cards integrate insights from multiple psychological and philosophical traditions, including trauma-informed psychotherapy, narrative therapy, parts work, neuro-linguistic principles, psychodrama, bilateral stimulation techniques, symbolic processing, metaphor work, and structured healing rituals.
Each card functions as a guided therapeutic reflection, designed to replicate the depth of a counselling dialogue. With 96 individual cards, the system offers a broad spectrum of insights and reflective prompts addressing many core psychological themes.
Key topics explored include:
• Trauma bonding
• Lack of reconciliation
• The practice of unforgiving
• Relationship dynamics

You Are as Sick as Your Secrets: Trauma Understands Trauma
A Memoir by Deirdre J. Rolfe
Before the development of later works exploring complex trauma dynamics, Deirdre Rolfe’s first published book, You Are as Sick as Your Secrets: Trauma Understands Trauma, introduced readers to the deeply personal origins of her lifelong inquiry into trauma, survival, and resilience.
This memoir offers a candid and reflective account of my early life experiences and the formative questions that emerged from growing up within environments marked by profound and persistent trauma. Rather than presenting trauma as a single event or isolated psychological injury, the book invites readers into a broader conversation about the complex, layered nature of traumatic experience.
You Are as Sick as Your Secrets explores how trauma is often woven through family systems, cultural expectations, and shared social obligations. Events that appear ordinary to outsiders—such as weddings, funerals, graduations, or family gatherings—can carry hidden emotional landscapes shaped by long histories of unresolved pain, attachment wounds, and relational conflict. The memoir reflects on how these experiences shape identity, perception, and coping mechanisms across the lifespan.
At its core, the book seeks to normalize open conversations about trauma while acknowledging that the lived reality of complex trauma is frequently far more intricate than many traditional narratives suggest. Through personal reflection and psychological insight, this book examines the enduring influence of early relational environments, schemas, attachment patterns, and the silent burdens that individuals often carry within family and social systems.
This book serves as the foundational introduction to the broader body of my work on trauma and psychological resilience. Her my book, Dark Contracts: Breaking the Nex of Narcissistic and Psychopathic Control, expands this exploration by examining the dynamics of coercive relationships and the psychological mechanisms associated with narcissistic, psychopathic, and other Dark Triad personality structures.
Together, these works form part of a developing body of writing aimed at deepening understanding of trauma, relational harm, and the pathways toward psychological clarity and recovery.
